For Brian, growing up Hard of Hearing was something was seldom acknowledged, but clearly a very important part of daily life. Brian’s career evolved in a more visual medium unfolded much later, catapulting him all over the world, documenting the human condition with his camera. Brian has shot numerous documentaries as a Director of Photography on networks like Discovery +, OMNI,and Telus Originals. The idea of leaning into his hearing came much later, through a series of events over decades which ultimately led to this film’s creation.
Brian’s hope is that this film will help people understand the limitations of hearing loss across it’s spectrum, whilst helping empowering people on their journey with with their own hearing.

Jamila Pomeroy
Jamila is a Kenyan-Canadian writer, director, producer and on-screen personality. She is best known for her 2023 documentary film Union Street, her 2025 CBC Absolutely Canadian special Muzizi, the 2024 Daytime Emmy-nominated series How I Got Here, and her 2022 series A Happier Planet with Jamila Pomeroy on CBC.

After a mild detour at the Canadian Military College where he was slated to fly fighter jets, Nigel moved back to Vancouver to pursue a career in the arts. Nigel co-founded an independent production company, Windowbox, where he wrote and directed commercials and documentaries. It was there he would champion his largest project to date, a feature documentary about hockey in North Korea. Nigel’s films have played internationally including DOC NYC, Whistler Film Festival, and Lunenburg DocFest. These experiences continue to lead Nigel to travel developing projects that reflect his ephemeral yet timeless style of filmmaking.
Nigel is a director member of the Directors Guild of Canada.
